Better Words, Better Ways

You know, for all the emotions and introspection this blog has prompted over the last five or six months, the most prevalent sentiment I have is “I wish I was better with words.” I wish interesting, original thoughts would flow out of me and strike chords in the hearts of masses. Maybe after I read more books. Until then, I’ll continue on as I am, the bull in this proverbial digital china shop.

Some other thinks I’ve been thinking lately:

  • The initial intention of this blog was to add an element of transparency to this journey. A place to balance all the bits we do on social media, tell stories about the music, and share general opinions or feelings we experience and reflect as we navigated the ups and downs of starting a business and trying to establish our brand. It began as a very therapeutic exercise, got very stressful, and now often feels just a little bit lost. So say what you will, but this blog is extremely successful.

  • I have dreams of being an architect and building houses, or opening a cafe in some beachside town that’s open for breakfast and lunch and hosts community events in the evenings. For some reason I decided the best way to achieve those goals was to make music and movies.

  • I believe I may have crossed the threshold. There is officially too much television and film I want to see and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to catch up, mostly because I have to do stupid things like work and exercise and spend time with people.

  • I’ve been eating too much bread lately. I’m also getting very good at making pizzas in my Ooni pizza oven. (Not a Sponsored Ad… but it could be)

  • We’ve made some upgrades around the house that have made it more livable in the past few months but I still want to get out of here so badly. Something’s gotta give!

  • We are 15 songs into our 50 song rollout this year. We are generally underperforming. Roe’s Garden is our top performer and have amassed almost 80k streams this year from almost 9k listeners which is about 80% of the streams I was aiming for up to this point and about 36% of the listenership I set out for, so they have a chance of achieving their year’s goals. The New Hippies on the other hand are less than 10% of the way there on both fronts, so kind of epically failing. We’ve done the same thing to promote each act so we’ll have to try something new out for the latter and we’ll see what happens when we debut our third and fourth acts in July and October, but things aren’t looking great for us right now. There’s still time, and we’re about to take a swing on some PR help, but halfway through the year it’s looking more and more like our results may not line up with our timeline. So we have some decisions to make.

  • I’m really getting pretty good at making pizzas.
